Maalox Suspension contains two diff erent medicines. They are called
dried aluminium hydroxide gel and magnesium hydroxide. They belong to a group of medicines called
antacids.
Maalox Suspension is used for:
• Heartburn or when your stomach has too much acid (indigestion)
• Infl ammation of the stomach (gastritis), and
• When prescribed by a doctor may also be used for lowering the amount of acid in your stomach or gut (intestine) when you have an ulcer Maalox
Suspension works by lowering the amount of acid in your stomach.
Do not take Maalox Suspension if:
You are allergic (hypersensitive) to dried aluminium hydroxide gel or magnesium hydroxide or any of the other ingredients in Maalox Suspension (see
Section 6: Further Information)
Signs of an allergic reaction include: a rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of your lips, face, throat or tongue
You are feeling very weak and have no energy (debilitated)
You have kidney problems
You have severe stomach pain
Your bowel is partially or fully blocked
Do not take this medicine if any of the above apply to you.
If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Maalox Suspension.
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist
if you are taking or have recently
taken any other medicines. This includes medicines you buy without a prescription, including herbal medicines.
Maalox Suspension should not be taken at the same time as other medicines. This is because Maalox Suspension can affect the way other medicines
work.
In particular, Maalox Suspension can affect the following medicines:
• Some medicines used to treat infections such as tetracycline,ciprofl oxacin, rifampicin and ketoconazole
• Medicines for malaria such as chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine
• Chlorpromazine - used for mental illness (psychosis)
• Vitamins
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
• You are pregnant, might become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant.
You should not take Maalox Suspension during the first three months of pregnancy
• You are breast-feeding or planning to breast-feed
Important information about some of the ingredients of Maalox Suspension
• Maalox Suspension contains
methylparaben (E218) and
propylparaben (E216). These may cause an allergic reaction. This allergy may happen sometime after taking this
medicine.
Signs of an allergic reaction include:
breathing problems with wheezing and tightness in your chest (called “bronchospasm”)
• Maalox Suspension contains
sorbitol (E420). If you have been told by your doctor that you cannot tolerate or digest some sugars, talk to your
doctor before taking this Medicine
Taking this medicine
• Shake well before use
• Take this medicine by mouth
• If necessary, Maalox Suspension
may be taken with water or milk
Adults, the elderly and children aged 14 years or older
• Take two to four 5 ml spoonfuls
• Take 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime
• Alternatively, take as directed by your doctor
If the symptoms do not go away,talk to your doctor.
Children less than 14 years old
• Maalox Suspension is not recommended for children less than 14 years of age.
If you take more Maalox Suspension than you should
Talk to your doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Remember to take any medicine that is left with you so the
doctor knows what you have taken.
Like all medicines, Maalox Suspension can cause side eff ects,although not everybody gets them.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side eff ects get serious or lasts longer than a few days.
Also tell them if you notice any side eff ects not listed in this leaflet:
• Constipation
• Diarrhoea
These side eff ects can happen, but are not common.
Keep this medicine in a safe place where children cannot see or reach it.
Do not use Maalox Suspension after the expiry date which is stated on this leaflet and the bottle after EXP.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Discard any medicine remaining 28days after opening the bottle.
Do not freeze. Store away from direct sunlight.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required.
These measures will help to protect the environment.
What Maalox Suspension contains
• Each 5 ml of suspension contains 220 mg of dried aluminium hydroxide gel and 195 mg of magnesium hydroxide,as
the active ingredients.
• The other ingredients are:
methylparaben (E218),propylparaben (E216), citric acid(anhydrous), sodium saccharin,sorbitol (E420), mannitol
powder,hydrogen peroxide, hydrochloric acid, peppermint oil and purified water

علامات رد الفعل التحسسي وتشمل:
طفح جلدي، صعوبة البلع أو مشاكل في التنفس، تورم الشفاه والوجه واللسان أو الحلق
كنت تشعر بضعف وليس لديك الطاقة (الوهن)
لديك مشاكل في الكلى
لديك آلام حادة في المعدة
تم انسداد الأمعاء بشكل جزئي أو بشكل كامل
لا تأخذ هذا الدواء إذا كان أي من أعلاه تنطبق عليك .

الحمل والرضاعة الطبيعية
تحدث إلى طبيبك أو الصيدلي قبل تناول هذا الدواء في الحالات التالية :
•كنت حاملا، قد تصبح حاملا، أو تعتقد أنك قد تكون حاملا .
يجب أن لا تأخذ مالوكس التعليق خلال الأشهر الثلاثة الأولى من الحمل
•الرضاعة الطبيعية أو التخطيط لإرضاع

•يحتوي معلق مالوكس على
ميثيل بارابين ( E218 ) و

•رج الزجاجة جيدا قبل الاستخدام
•خذ هذا الدواء عن طريق الفم
•إذا لزم الأمر، معلق مالوكس
يمكن أن يؤخذ مع الماء أو الحليب
البالغين وكبار السن والأطفال الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 14 عاما أو أكثر
•خذ 2- 4 ملاعق 5 مل
•خذ 20 دقيقة إلى 1 ساعة بعد الوجبات وعند النوم
•وبدلا من ذلك، يؤخذ حسب توجيهات الطبيب
إذا كانت الأعراضلا تذهب ، فتحدث الى الطبيب .
الأطفال أقل من 14 سنة
•لا ينصح بأخذ معلق مالوكس للأطفال أقل من 14 سنة من العمر .

أخبر طبيبك أو الصيدلي إذا كان أي من النظام الأوروبي جانب ممثل المؤسسة التالي جدية أو يستمر لفترة أطول من بضعة أيام. نقول لهم أيضا إذا لاحظت أي النظام

•الإمساك
•الإسهال
احفظ هذا الدواء في مكان آمن حيث لا يستطيع الأطفال رؤية أو الوصول إليها .

The symptomatic relief of:
1. Dyspepsia.
2. Heartburn.
3. Flatulence.
For oral administration:
Adults
5-10ml taken 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime or as required.
Children
As an appropriate proportion of the adult dose.
Children under 5 years
Maximum of 5ml t.d.s.
Elderly
The normal adult dose is appropriate.
In patients with renal impairment, plasma levels of both aluminium and magnesium increase. In these
patients, a long-term exposure to high doses of aluminium and magnesium salts may lead to
dementia, microcytic anemia.
Aluminum hydroxide may be unsafe in patients with porphyria undergoing hemodialysis.
This product contains sorbitol (E420). Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance
should not take this medicine.
This product contains methyl paraben (E218) and propyl paraben (E216); these may cause allergic
reactions (possibly delayed).
Maalox Plus should not be taken simultaneously with other medicines as they may interfere with their
absorption if taken within 1 hour.
Aluminium-containing antacids may prevent the proper absorption of cefdinir and cefpodoxime.
Aluminum hydroxide and citrates may result in increased aluminum levels, especially in patients with
renal impairment.
The safety of Maalox Plus (Suspension) in pregnancy has not been established.
Magnesium is considered as compatible with lactation

Gastrointestinal side-effects are uncommon.
Serious symptoms are unlikely following overdosage.
Treatment of magnesium overdose: consider administration of IV Calcium Gluconate, rehydration and
forced diuresis. In case of renal deficiency, haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is necessary.

Maalox Plus is a balanced mixture of two antacids and an antiflatulent/antifoaming agent simeticone.
The two antacids are magnesium hydroxide which is fast acting and aluminium hydroxide which is a
slow acting antacid. The combination produces a fast onset of action and an increase in total buffering
time. Aluminium hydroxide on its own is an astringent and may cause constipation. This effect is
balanced by the effect of the magnesium hydroxide which is in common with other magnesium salts
may cause diarrhoea.
