Pecal 100 mg/5 ml syrup contains guaifenesin which is a type of medicine called an expectorant. It helps to relieve chesty (productive) coughs by loosening phlegm (mucus), making it easier to cough up and the cough more productive.
The medicine is for use in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over.
Do NOT take this medicine if:
- you are allergic (hypersensitive) to guaifenesin or any of the other ingredients (see section 6 for ingredient list).
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if:
- You have had a cough for a long time or if you have asthma or are suffering from an asthma attack.
Take special care with this medicine
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you:
- have had a cough for more than 7 days or your cough recurs or is accompanied by a fever, rash or persistent headache.
- have a persistent cough that may be caused by asthma.
- have a cough which brings up a lot of mucus (phlegm).
- suffer from liver or kidney problems.
- are taking alcohol.
Interference with laboratory tests
If you are undergoing urine tests it is important to tell the doctor or nurse you are taking, or have recently taken, this medicine as it can affect some results.
Taking other medicines
Always tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, , or have recently taken, any other medicine, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
- It is not recommended that you take this medicine with other cough medicines intended to stop you from coughing (antitussives or cough suppressants) as they may interfere with the action of this medicine.
Taking with food or drink
You can take this medicine with or without food or drink
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
- If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor or pharmacist. This medicine should not be used during pregnancy unless advised by a doctor.
- Do not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding until you speak with a doctor or pharmacist.
Driving and using machines
guaifenesin is not expected to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you do feel unwell, do not drive or use machinery.
Important information about some of the ingredients in this medicine:
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine as it contains Sorbitol.
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your pharmacist has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- This syrup is for oral use only.
- Do not use more than the stated dose shown.
Adults, the elderly and adolescents over 12 years:
Take 10 ml up to four times daily, as required.
Children under 12 years: Do not give.
Patients with liver or kidney problems: Speak to a doctor or pharmacist.
- Do NOT take more than 4 doses (40 ml) in 24 hours.
- Contact a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve within 7 days.
If you take more medicine than you should:
If anyone has too much, contact a doctor or your nearest Accident and Emergency Department taking this leaflet and pack with you. If you take too much of this medicine you may develop kidney stones. Symptoms may include:
- Upset stomach, nausea and drowsiness.
If you forget to take your medicine:
You should only take this medicine as required following the dosage instructions carefully. If you forget to take a dose, take the next dose when needed. Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten dose. Do not take more than 4 doses (40 ml) in 24 hours.
Like all medicines, guaifenesin can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
If you experience any of the following STOP using the medicine and seek medical help immediately:
- Allergic reactions including skin rashes (which may be severe and include blistering and peeling of the skin) and itching.
Mild effects that may occur include:
- Nausea or vomiting.
- Stomach pain and diarrhea.
- Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date shown on the top end of the carton.
- Do not store above 30°C.
- Discard unused portion after 1 month after opening.
Each 5 ml contains 100 mg of the active substance guaifenesin.
This medicine also contains: Sodium benzoate, Sodium saccharin, Glycerin, Propylene glycol, Sorbitol 70 liquid, Citric acid anhydrous, FD&C yellow No. 6 dye, Liquid caramel cream flavor, Tangerine liquid flavor and Purified water.

هذا الدواء يحتوي على المادة الفعالة غوايفنيزين, وهو نوع من الأدوية الطاردة للبلغم . فهو يساعد على تخفيف السعال المصاحب ببلغم عن طريق تخفيف البلغم (المخاط)، مما يخفف من حدة السعال ويصبح السعال أكثر إنتاجية واقل تكرارا.ً
هذا الدواء يسخدم للبالغين والمراهقين الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 12 سنة وما فوق.
لا تستخدم هذا الدواء:
- إذا كنت تعاني من الحساسية تجاه غوايفنيزين أو لاحدى المواد المستخدمة في تركيبة هذا الدواء (أنظر القسم 6).
يجب استشارة طبيبك قبل إستخدام هذا الدواء في الحالات التالية:
- إذا كنت تعاني من السعال منذ فترة طويلة أو إذا كان لديك ربو أو كنت تعاني من نوبة الربو.
يجب عليك اتخاذ عناية خاصة مع إستعمال هذا الدواء:
تحدث الى طبيبك أو الصيدلي قبل تناول هذا الدواء في هذه الحالات التالية:
- اذا استمر السعال لأكثر من 7 ايام أو كان السعال متكرر أو مصاحبا بحرارة أو طفح جلدي أو صداع مستمر.
- اذا كانت لديك كحة مستمرة قد يكون سببها مرض الربو.
- اذا كان السعال مصاحبا بكثير من البلغم (المخاط).
- تعاني من مشاكل في الكبد أو الكلى.
- تناول الكحول.
التداخلات مع الفحوصات المخبرية
إذا كنت سوف تخضع لأختبارات البول فمن المهم بأن تخبر الطبيب أو الممرضة بأنك تستعمل هذ الدواء أو أخذته في الأونه الأخيره لأنه من الممكن بأن يؤثر على بعض النتائج.
التداخلات الدوائية من اخذ بيكتال مع أي ادوية اخرى
أخبر طبيبك دائما أو الصيدلي إذا كنت تأخذ أو أتخذت في الأونة الاخيرة أي دواء آخر، بما في ذلك الأدوية التي تم الحصول عليها دون وصفة طبية.
من غير المستحسن أن تأخذ هذا الدواء مع أدوية السعال األخرى (مثبطات السعال) لأنها قد تتداخل مع عمل هذا الدواء.
تناول البيكتال مع الطعام أو الشراب
يمكنك إستعمال هذا العلاج مع أو بدون الطعام أو الشراب.
الحمل والرضاعة
- إذا كنت حامل أو تعتقدين بانك حامل يرجى إستشارة طبيبك قبل تناول هذا الدواء، لا ينصح باستعمال البيكتال للنساء الحوامل إلا عندما ينصح طبيبك بذلك.
- لا يجب عليك استعمال هذا العلاج إذا كنت مرضعة إلا اذا نصحك طبيبك بذلك.
تأثير البيكتال على القيادة واستخدام الألات
من غير المعروف عن الغوايفنيزين بأنه يؤثر على قدرتك على القيادة أو أستخدام الألات. غلى الرغم من ذلك إذا كنت تشعر بأنك لست على ما يرام لا تقود أو تستخدم الألات.
معلومات هامة حول بعض مكونات هذا الدواء:
إذا كان طبيبك قد أخبرك بأن لديك حساسية مفرطة لبعض أنواع السكر, استشر طبيبك قبل تناول هذا الدواء حيث أنه يحتوي على السوربيتول.
دائما عليك أن تأخذ هذا الدواء بالضبط كما هو موضح في هذه النشرة أو كما قال الصيدلي لك. و يجب عليك التحقق مع طبيبك أو الصيدلي إذا لم تكن متأكدا.
- هذا الشراب للاستخدام عن طريق الفم فقط.
- لا تستخدم أكثر من الجرعة المحددة لك.
البالغين والمسنين والأطفال ممن تزيد أعمارهم عن 12 عاما : تناول 10مل لغاية أربعة مرات كما هو مطلوب يومياً.
الأطفال تحت سن 12 عاما : لا ينبغي إستخدامه
المرضى الذين يعانون من مشاكل في الكبد أو في الكلى: تحدث إلى طبيبك أو الصيدلي
- لا تأخذ أكثر من أربعة جرعات (40 مل) خلال 24 ساعة في أي يوم.
- اتصل بالطبيب إذا ساءت الأعراض أو لم تتحسن خلال 7 أيام.
إذا تناولت جرعة زائدة من بيكتال أكبر مما ينبغي
إذا تناولت كمية كبيرة من هذا الدواء، يرجى إستشارة الطبيب أو زيارة أقرب مركز طواريء لديك فورا مع أخذك لهذه النشرة. عند أخذك كمية ً كبيرة من هذا العلاج من الممكن بأن تصاب بحصى الكلى والتي أعراضها تشمل:
- أضطراب في المعدة و غثيان و خمول.
نسيان تناول جرعة بيكتال
- عند نسيانك أخذ جرعتك يجب عليك تناول جرعتك القادمة عند الحاجة اليها, شريطة أن الجرعة السابقة قد تم أخذها بما لا يقل عن 4 ساعات. لا تأخذ جرعة مضاعفة لتعويض الجرعة المنسية. لا يجب عليك أخذ أكثر من أربعة جرعات خلال 24 ساعة.
مثل جميع الادوية قد يتسبب هذا الدواء بأعراض جانبية, وان لم تحصل لجميع المرضى.
إذا واجهتك أي من الأعراض الجانبية المذكورة أدناه أو أي أعراض جانبية أخرى, توقف عن تناول هذا الدواء وإتصل بطبيبك فوراً :
- ردود فعل تحسسية. الأعراض قد تتضمن طفح جلدي (قد تكون حادة وتشمل تقرحات في الجلد أو تقشر الجلد) أو حكة جلدية.
آثار خفيفة من المحتمل حدوثها والتي تشمل ما يلي:
- الغثيان أو القيء.
- ألم في المعدة والإسهال.
- إحفظ هذا الدواء بعيداً عن مرأى ومتناول الاطفال.
- لا تستخدم هذا الدواء بعد تاريخ انتهاء الصالحية المذكور على الطرف العلوي للعلبة الخارجية.
- لا تحفظ الدواء عند درجة حرارة أعلى من 30 °درجة مئوية.
- تخلص من الجزء الغير مستعمل من الدواء بعد شهر واحد فقط من فتح العلبة
كل 5 مل تحتوي على 100 مغ من المادة الفعالة غوايفنيزين
هذا الدواء يحتوي أيضا على: بنزوات الصوديوم, الصوديوم سكارين, الجلسرين, البروبيلين غليكول, السوربيتول 70 سائل, حامض الستريك اللامائي, صبغة أف دي اند سي أصفر رقم 6 ,سائل نكهة الكريم كراميل, نكهة سائل المندرين, ماء نقي.
بيكتال هو شراب برتقالي اللون مع سائل نكهة الكريم كراميل ورائحة.

Pectal is indicated as an expectorant for the treatment of coughs.
(See Section 5.2 Pharmacokinetic properties-Special patient population)
For oral administration.
- Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: One 10ml measure up to four times daily.
- Children under12 years: Do not use for pediatric patients under the age of 12 years old.
Causes of chronic cough should be excluded if symptoms are persistent. Any accompanying symptoms should be actively sought and appropriately investigated/treated. Stop use and ask a healthcare professional if your cough lasts more than 7 days, comes back or is accompanied by a fever, rash, or persistent headache.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not exceed recommended dose.
Excipient warnings: patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this medicine because this product contains Sorbitol.
There are no clinically significant interactions.
- Pregnancy
Although adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have not been performed, the Collaborative Perinatal Project monitored 197 mother-child pairs exposed to guaifenesin during the first trimester. An increased occurrence of inguinal hernias was found in the neonates. However, congenital defects were not strongly associated with guaifenesin use during pregnancy in 2 large groups of mother-child pairs.
- Lactation
Guaifenesin is excreted in breast milk in small quantities.
Caution should therefore be exercised by balancing the potential benefit of treatment against any possible risks.
No or negligible influence.
The following side effects may be associated with the use of guaifenesin:
Gastrointestinal disorders
Nausea, vomiting/gastrointestinal discomfort.
Immune system disorders
Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Appropriate supportive therapy dependent upon individual response to the preparation.

Guaifenesin has an expectorant action which increases the output of respiratory tract fluid by reducing adhesiveness and surface tension. The increased flow of less viscid secretions promotes ciliary action and facilitates the removal of mucus. This changes an unproductive cough to a cough that is more productive and less frequent.
Guaifenesin is well absorbed from the gastro intestinal tract following oral administration. Guaifenesin has a plasma half-life of approximately 1 hour. It is rapidly hydrolyzed (60% within seven hours) and then excreted in the urine, with beta-(2- methoxyphenoxy)-lactic acid as its major urinary metabolite.
There are no preclinical data of relevance to the prescriber which are additional to that already included in other sections of this summary of product characteristics.
