Epimag contains magnesium citrate which inhibit formation of calcium oxalate crystals and is an osmotic laxative.
Epimag is used for:
- Prophylaxis of recurrent calcium oxalates.
- Mild laxative to relieve constipation.
Do not take Epimag if:
-You are allergic (hypersensitive) to magnesium citrate or to any of the other ingredients in Epimag (see Section 6: Further Information).
- You have abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms of appendicitis.
- You have abdominal surgery.
- You have intestinal obstruction or perforation.
- You havehigh blood magnesium.
Do not take this medicine if any of the above apply to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Epimag.
Taking other medicines:
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes medicines you buy without a prescription, particulary the following drugs:
- Aminoquinolones (e.g. chloroquine).
- Fluoroquinolones (e.g. ciprofloxacin).
- Nitrofurantoin.
- Penicillamine, and tetracyclines.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You are pregnant, might become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant.
- You are breast-feeding or planning to breast-feed.
The contents of one sachet are to be dissolved in half glass of water and given 3 times daily in case of prophylaxis treatment, but a larger doses for shorter durations is required if Epimag is used as a Mild laxative or as directed by the physician.
Epimag should not be used as laxative for more than one week.
If you take more Epimag than you should:
Talk to your doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Remember to take any medicine that is left with you so the doctor knows what you have taken.
Like all medicines, Epimag can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The side effects include:
-Gastrointestinal irritation, abdominal cramping, nausea, diarrhea, and laxative dependence with long-term or excessive use.
-Fluid and electrolyte disturbances.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30° C.
Store the in the original package.
Use Epimag before the expiry date shown on the label.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

يحتوي إبيماج على سترات الماغنسيوم الذى يعمل على منع ترسيب أملاح أوكسالات الكالسيوم فى الكلى، كما يعمل كملين.
يستخدم إبيماج فى علاج:
-للوقايه من تكرار حالات زيادة أملاح أوكسالات الكالسيوم.
-ملين خفيف لتخفيف الإمساك
يجب عدم أخذ إبيماج إذا:
- كان لديك حساسية (مفرطة) من سترات الماغنسيوم أو من أى من المكونات الأخرى فى المستحضر (لمزيد من المعلومات انظر الفقرة 6).
- كان لديك ألم بالبطن، وأعراض إلتهاب الزائدة الدودية.
- كنت خضعت لجراحة بالبطن
- كان لديك إنسداد أو ثقب بالأمعاء.
- تعاني من ارتفاع المغنيسيوم في الدم.
لا تأخذ هذا الدواء إذا كان أي من الحالات السابقة تنطبق عليك. إذا كنت غير متأكد، تحدث إلى طبيبك أو الصيدلي قبل أخذ الدواء.
تناول أدوية أخرى:
يرجى إخبار الطبيب أو الصيدلى إذا كنت تأخذ أو أخذت فى الآونة الأخيرة أى أدوية أخرى، خاصة الأدوية التالية:
-الأمينوكوينولونات (مثل: الكلوروكين).
-الفلوروكينولونات (مثل السيبروفلوكساسين).
-نيتروفيورانتوين.
البنيسيللامين، و التتراسيكلين.
الحمل والرضاعة الطبيعية:
تحدث إلى طبيبك أو الصيدلى قبل تناول هذا الدواء فى الحالات التالية:
- كنتى حاملا، قد تصبحين حاملا، أو تعتقدين أنك قد تكونين حاملا.
- كنتى ترضعين من الثدى أو تخططين للإرضاع.
تذاب محتويات الكيس فى نصف كوب ماء ثلاث مرات يومياً في حالات العلاج الوقائى و لكن يجب أخذ جرعات أكبر لفتره قصيره إذا كان الاستخدام كمليت خفيف، أو حسب إرشادات الطبيب.
- يجب عدم استخدام إبيماج كملين بعد أكثر من أسبوع.
عند تناول جرعة أكبر من المطلوب:
إذا أخذت جرعة أكبر من التى وصفها لك، تحدث إلى الطبيب أو إذهب إلى المستشفى على الفور. خذ العبوة و ماتبقى بها معك حتى يعرف الطبيب ماذا أخذت.
مثل جميع الأدوية، يمكن أن يسبب إبيماج بعض الأعراض الجانبية، بالرغم من أنه ليس على جميع المرضى الإصابة بهذه الأعراض.
إن الأعراض الجانبية يمكن أن تشمل:
- تهيج معدى معوى، تقلصات فى البطن، إسهال، غثيان، إعتماد على الملينات عد العلاج لفترات طويلة.
- وقد يحدث إضطراب فى سوائل الجسم.
يحفظ الدواء بعيدا عن متناول الأطفال.
يحفظ الدواء فى درجة حرارة لا تزيد عن ٣٠°م.
يجب عدم تعاطي إبيماج بعد إنتهاء تاريخ الصلاحية المكتوب على العلبة، و يشير تاريخ إنتهاء الصلاحية إلى آخر يوم فى الشهر المذكور.
يجب عدم التخلص من الدواء عن طريق مياة المجارى أو عن طريق القمامة. و يجب إستشارة الصيدلى عن كيفية التخلص من الدواء الغير مستخدم، و الهدف من ذلك المحافظة على البيئة نظيفة.

- Patients with rectal bleeding.
- Pregnancy and lactation.

Magnesium citrate, and other magnesium salts, may interact with many other drugs both by alterations in gastric pH and emptying, and by formation of complexes that are not
absorbed. Generally, magnesium salts may impair absorption of many other drugs.
Administration should be separated by a number of hours. The following drug classes may interact with magnesium:
- Aminoquinolones (e.g. chloroquine).
- Fluoroquinolones (e.g. ciprofloxacin).
- Nitrofurantoin.
- Penicillamine, and tetracyclines.

Magnesium salts have a variety of actions and uses. Magnesium is needed for normal enzyme activity, muscle contraction, and nerve condution. Magnesium ions inhibit formation of calcium oxalate crystals by combination with exogenous dietatric oxalate thus preventing formation of renal crystalluria. The citrate ions render urine alkaline so that urates may dissolve and are easily eliminated. Also, citrate ions, by chelating calcium ions, inhibit formation of calcium oxalate. Therefore, magnesium citrate may be prescribed to prevent recurrence of calcium oxalate kidney stones. Magnesium citrate is an osmotic laxative.
Oral magnesium salts, including citrate, are generally very slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. They are excreted rapidly in the urine (absorbed fraction) and the faeces (unabsorbed fraction).
