Epicogel contains three different medicines:
-The first two medicines are called aluminium hydroxide gel and magnesium hydroxide. They belong to a group of medicines called antacids
-The other medicine is called dimethicone. It belongs to a group of medicines called anti-foaming agents
Epicogel is used for:
- The relief of indigestion (dyspepsia).
- Heartburn.
- Wind (flatulence).
Epicogel works by lowering the amount of acid in your stomach.
The anti-foaming agent in Epicogel helps to remove gas from your stomach.
Do not take Epicogel if:
-You are allergic (hypersensitive) to aluminium hydroxide gel, magnesium hydroxide, dimethicone or any of the other ingredients in Epicogel (see Section 6: Further Information). Signs of an allergic reaction include: a rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of your lips, face, throat or tongue.
- You are feeling very weak and have no energy (debilitated).
- You have kidney disease.
- You have low levels of phosphate (called ‘hypophosphataemia’). This is shown up in blood tests.
Do not take this medicine if any of the above apply to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Epicogel.
Taking other medicines:
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes medicines you buy without a prescription, including herbal medicines.
Epicogel should not be taken at the same time as other medicines. This is because Epicogel can affect the way other medicines work. If Epicogel is taken within one hour of any other medicine, it can affect the uptake of that medicine into the blood.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You are pregnant, might become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant.
- You are breast-feeding or planning to breast-feed.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Epicogel:
- Epicogel contains methylparaben and propylparaben. These may cause an allergic reaction. This allergy may happen some time after taking this medicine. Signs of an allergic reaction include: breathing problems with wheezing and tightness in your chest (called ‘bronchospasm’)
- Epicogel contains sorbitol. If you have been told by your doctor that you cannot tolerate or digest some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
Taking this medicine:
- Shake well before use.
- Take this medicine by mouth.
Adults including the elderly: Take one to two 5ml spoonfuls 4 times each day. Take 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime. Alternatively, take as directed by your doctor.
If the symptoms do not go away, talk to your doctor.
If you take more Epicogel than you should:
Talk to your doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Remember to take any medicine that is left with you so the doctor knows what you have taken.
Like all medicines, Epicogel can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects get serious or lasts longer than a few days. Also tell them if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet:
- Constipation
- Diarrhoea
These side effects can happen, but are not common.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30° C.
Store in the original package and keep the bottle tightly closed.
Use Epicogel before the expiry date shown on the label.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

Each 100 ml contains:
Aluminium hydroxide gel 8.1 gm
Magnesium hydroxide 2.0 gm
Dimethicone 2.5 gm
Excipients: Citric acid anhydrous, peppermint oil, methylparaben sodium, propylparaben sodium, saccharin sodium, sorbitol 70 %, hydrogen peroxide, mannitol, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, colloidal silicone dioxide, propylene glycol, polysorbate 20, purified water.

يحتوي إبيكوجيل على ثلاثة مواد مختلفة:
- المادتين الأولين هما أيدروكسيد الألومنيوم و أيدروكسيد الماغنسيوم. اللذان ينتميان إلى مجموعة من الأدوية تسمى مضادات الحموضة.
- المادة الأخرى هى دايميثيكون. الذى ينتمى إلى مجموعة من الأدوية تسمى مضادات الرغوة.
يستخدم إبيكوجيل فى علاج:
- عسر الهضم.
- حرقان المعدة.
- إنتفاخ البطن.
يعمل إبيكوجيل عن طريق خفض كمية الحمض الموجود فى المعدة.
تساعد المادة المضادة للرغوة الموجودة فى إبيكوجيل على إزالة الغاز من معدتك.
يجب عدم أخذ إبيكوجيل إذا:
- كان لديك حساسية )مفرطة( من أيدروكسيد الألومنيوم، أيدروكسيد الماغنسيوم، دايميثيكون أو من أى من المكونات الأخرى في المستحضر (لمزيد من المعلومات انظر الفقرة 6). علامات تفاعلات الحساسية تشمل: طفح جلدى، مشاكل فى البلع أو التنفس، تورم الشفاه، الوجه، الحلق أو اللسان.
- كنت تشعر أنك ضعيف جدا وليس لديك طاقة (وهن).
- كان لديك مرض فى الكلى.
- كان لديك مستويات منخفضة من الفوسفات فى الدم، و يظهر هذا الأمر فى إختبارات الدم.
لا تأخذ هذا الدواء إذا كان أي من الحالات السابقة تنطبق عليك. إذا كنت غير متأكد، تحدث إلى طبيبك أو الصيدلي قبل أخذ الدواء.
تناول أدوية أخرى:
يرجى إخبار الطبيب أو الصيدلى إذا كنت تأخذ أو أخذت فى الآونة الأخيرة أى أدوية أخرى، بما فى ذلك الأدوية التى تم الحصول عليها دون وصفة طبية، بما فى ذلك الأدوية العشبية. حيث يمكن أن يؤثر إبيكوجيل على طريقة عمل الأدوية الأخرى أو يمكن أن تؤثر هذه الأدوية على طريقة عمل إبيكوجيل .
الحمل والرضاعة الطبيعية:
تحدث إلى طبيبك أو الصيدلى قبل تناول هذا الدواء فى الحالات التالية:
- كنتى حاملا، قد تصبحين حاملا، أو تعتقدين أنك قد تكونين حاملا.
- كنتى ترضعين من الثدى أو تخططين للإرضاع.
معلومات هامة حول بعض العناصر من إبيكوجيل :
- يحتوى إبيكوجيل على ميثيل بروبيل بارابين و هذا قد يسبب تفاعلات حساسية. هذه الحساسية يمكن أن تحدث بعد تناول هذا الدواء ببعض الوقت. علامات تفاعلات الحساسية تشمل: مشاكل فى التنفس مع صفير و ضيق فى صدرك (تشنج قصبى).
- يحتوى إبيكوجيل على سوربيتول. إذا قال لك الطبيب أنك ليس لديك قدرة على تحمل أو هضم بعض السكريات، تحدث مع طبيبك قبل أخذ هذا الدواء.
تناول هذا الدواء:
- رج الزجاجة جيدا قبل الإستعمال.
- خذ هذا الدواء عن طريق الفم.
الكبار بما فى ذلك كبار السن: خذ 1-2 ملعقة 5 مل 4 مرات كل يوم. يجب أخذ الدواء بعد الوجبات ب 20 دقيقة إلى 1 ساعة وعند النوم. خذ الدواء حسب توجيهات الطبيب.
إذا كانت الأعراض لا تزول مع تناول الدواء، تحدث مع طبيبك.
عند تناول جرعة أكبر من المطلوب:
إذا أخذت جرعة أكبر من التى وصفها لك، تحدث إلى الطبيب أو إذهب إلى المستشفى على الفور. خذ العبوة و ماتبقى بها معك حتى يعرف الطبيب ماذا أخذت.
مثل جميع الأدوية، يمكن أن يسبب إبيكوجيل بعض الأعراض الجانبية، بالرغم من أنه ليس على جميع المرضى الإصابة بهذه الأعراض.
أخبر طبيبك أو الصيدلى إذا كان أى من الأعراض الجانبية التالية تزداد سوءا أو تستمر لفترة أطول من بضعة أيام. أخبر طبيبك فورا إذا تعرضت لأى من الأعراض الجانبية الآتية:
- إمساك
- إسهال
هذه الأعراض الجانبية يمكن أن تحدث، ولكنها ليست شائعة.
يحفظ الدواء بعيدا عن متناول الأطفال.
يحفظ الدواء فى درجة حرارة لا تزيد عن 30˚م.
يجب عدم تعاطي إبيكوجيل بعد إنتهاء تاريخ الصلاحية المكتوب على العلبة، و يشير تاريخ إنتهاء الصلاحية إلى آخر يوم فى الشهر المذكور.
يجب عدم التخلص من الدواء عن طريق مياة المجارى أو عن طريق القمامة. و يجب إستشارة الصيدلى عن كيفية التخلص من الدواء الغير مستخدم، و الهدف من ذلك المحافظة على البيئة نظيفة.
المواد الفعالة: أيدروكسيد الألومنيوم الغروى، أيدروكسيد الماغنيسيوم، دايميثيكون.
كل 100 مل تحتوى على:
أيدروكسيد الألومنيوم الغروى 8.1 جم
أيدروكسيد الماغنسيوم 2.00 جم
دايميثيكون 2.5 جم
المواد الغير فعالة:
حامض الستريك اللامائى، زيت النعناع، صوديوم ميثيل بارابين، صوديوم بروبيل بارابين، سكارين الصوديوم، سوربيتول 70٪، هيدروجين بيروكسيد، مانيتول، هيدروكسى بروبيل ميثيل سليلوز، ثانى أوكسيد السيليكون الغروانى، بروبيلين جليكول، بوليسوربات 20، ماء نقى.
العبوة:
زجاجات بكل منها 100 أو 125 أو 180 أو 200 مل.

The symptomatic relief of:
- Dyspepsia.
- Heartburn.
- Flatulence.
For oral administration:
Adults:
5-10ml taken 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime or as required.
Elderly:
The normal adult dose is appropriate.
In patients with renal impairment, plasma levels of both aluminium and magnesium increase. In these patients, a long-term exposure to high doses of aluminium and magnesium salts may lead to dementia, microcytic anemia.
Aluminum hydroxide may be unsafe in patients with porphyria undergoing hemodialysis.
This product contains sorbitol. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this medicine.
This product contains methyl paraben and propyl paraben; these may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
Epicogel should not be taken simultaneously with other medicines as they may interfere with their absorption if taken within 1 hour.
Aluminium-containing antacids may prevent the proper absorption of cefdinir and cefpodoxime.
Aluminum hydroxide and citrates may result in increased aluminum levels, especially in patients with renal impairment.
The safety of Epicogel in pregnancy has not been established.
Magnesium is considered as compatible with lactation.

Serious symptoms are unlikely following overdosage.
Treatment of magnesium overdose: consider administration of IV Calcium Gluconate, rehydration and forced diuresis. In case of renal deficiency, haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is necessary.

Epicogel is a balanced mixture of two antacids and an antiflatulent/antifoaming agent simeticone. The two antacids are magnesium hydroxide which is fast acting and aluminium hydroxide which is a slow acting antacid. The combination produces a fast onset of action and an increase in total buffering time. Aluminium hydroxide on its own is an astringent and may cause constipation. This effect is balanced by the effect of the magnesium hydroxide which is in common with other magnesium salts may cause diarrhoea.
