FERRO-FOL capsules belongs to a group of medicines known as haematinics, which improve the blood’s ability to carry oxygen. They do this by increasing the amount of haemoglobin. FERRO-FOL capsules is used to prevent iron and folic acid deficiency during pregnancy, after the first thirteen weeks.
Do not take FERRO-FOL capsules if you:
• are allergic (hypersensitive) to FERRO-FOL capsules or any of its ingredients.
• are less than 13 weeks pregnant.
• have too much iron in your body.
Important information about some of the ingredients of FERRO-FOL capsules:
Your medicine contains sucrose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicinal product.
This medicine should not be given to children or elderly patients.
Take special care with FERRO-FOL capsules and inform your doctor if you:
• suffer from haemochromatosis - a hereditary disorder in which excessive amounts of iron accumulate in the body tissues
• suffer from haemolytic anaemia - a blood disorder characterised by low number of red blood cells.
• suffer from red cell aplasia - a blood disorder where there is no production of red blood cells.
• suffer from Vitamin B12 deficiency or any other blood disorder.
Taking other medicines:
You should tell your doctor if you are taking or have taken any of the following medicines as they may interact with FERRO-FOL capsules:
• Tetracyclines (antibiotics).
• Antacids (medicines used to neutralise acidity, especially in the stomach).
• Penicillamine (medicine used to treat severe arthritis).
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Food and drink:
The effect of FERRO-FOL capsules may be reduced if taken with tea, coffee, eggs or milk.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding:
Do not use this medicine during the first thirteen weeks of pregnancy. Your doctor will decide if you need to take this medicine during the remaining period of pregnancy.
Driving and using machines:
FERRO-FOL capsules does not affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
• The usual dose is one capsule per day after 13 weeks of pregnancy. Some pregnant patients may need a higher dose of iron. Your doctor may prescribe you a higher dose of FERRO-FOL capsules if necessary.
• Swallow the whole capsule with a glass of water. Do not chew or suck the capsule as side effects may be increased. Alternatively, the capsule may be opened and the pellets mixed with soft, cool food, but they must not be chewed or sucked.
This medicine should not be given to children or elderly patients.
If you take more FERRO-FOL capsules than you should:
This product contains iron. Keep out of the reach of children. If you or someone else has taken too many FERRO-FOL capsules contact your doctor or hospital immediately.
Overdose in case of children may be fatal.
Early signs (up to 6 hours after taking the capsules) of overdose include:
• Stomach pain.
• Diarrhoea.
• Being sick.
• Blood present in the vomit or stool.
Other signs include:
• Collapse of the body’s circulation (shock).
• Liver damage.
• Kidney failure.
• fits.
• Coma.
• Lack of desire to do anything.
• bleeding in the stomach.
• jaundice.
• Fluid on the lungs.
• Low blood sugar.
• Blood disorders (clotting disorders).
• Excessive acidity of the blood.
• Pyloric stenosis - narrowing of part of the stomach which leads into the small intestine.
If you forget to take FERRO-FOL capsules:
Take that dose as soon as you remember. Then take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Like all medicines, FERRO-FOL capsules can cause side effects although not everybody gets them.
FERRO-FOL capsules can cause allergic reactions, although serious allergic reactions are very rare. Tell your doctor straight away if you experience any of the following symptoms:
• Difficulty in breathing.
• Rash affecting your body.
• If you collapse.
If you experience the following symptoms while you are taking this medicine contact your doctor as soon as possible:
• Upset stomach.
• Stomach discomfort.
• Loss of appetite.
• feeling sick.
• Constipation.
• Diarrhoea.
• Darkening of the stools.
If any of these side effects get serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
- Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
- Store in a dry place at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.
- Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.
- Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

فيرو-فول كبسولات ينتمي إلى مجموعة من الأدوية المعروفة باسم مقويات الدم, التي تحسن من قدرة الدم على حمل الأكسجين. تقوم بذلك من خلال زيادة كمية الهيموجلوبين. يتم استخدام فيرو-فول كبسولات لمنع نقص الحديد وحمض الفوليك خلال فترة الحمل، وبعد الثلاثة عشر أسبوعاً الأولى.
يجب ان لا يعطي فيرو-فول كبسولات إذا كنت :
- تعاني من الحساسية (لديك فرط حساسية) للمستحضر أو أي من مكوناته.
- حامل في اقل من ١٣ أسبوع.
- لديك إرتفاع بنسبة الحديد في جسمك.
معلومات هامة حول بعض العناصر من فيرو-فول كبسولات
يحتوي الدواء علي السكروز. إذا كان قد قيل من قبل الطبيب أن لديك عدم تحمل لبعض السكريات، اتصل بطبيبك قبل أخذ هذا المنتج الدوائي.
لا ينبغي أن تعطى هذا الدواء للأطفال أو المرضى المسنين.
يرجي توخي الحذر مع فيرو-فول كبسولات، وإبلاغ الطبيب إذا كنت:
- تعاني من التلون الدموي - اضطراب وراثي حيث تتراكم كميات كبيرة من الحديد في أنسجة الجسم .
- تعاني من فقر دم انحلالي - اضطراب في الدم يتميز بإنخفاض عدد خلايا الدم الحمراء .
- تعاني من عدم تكوين نسيج الخلايا الحمراء - اضطراب في الدم يتميز بعدم إنتاج خلايا الدم الحمراء .
- يعانون من نقص فيتامين ب ١٢ أو أي اضطراب آخر في الدم .
أخذ أدوية أخرى:
يجب عليك إخبار الطبيب إذا كنت تأخذ أو أخذت أي من الأدوية التالية لأنها قد تتفاعل مع فيرو-فول كبسولات:
- التتراسيكلين (مضاد حيوي).
- مضادات الحموضة (الأدوية المستخدمة لمعادلة الحموضة، وخصوصا في المعدة).
- البنسيلامين (دواء يستخدم لعلاج التهاب المفاصل الحاد).
يرجى إخبار الطبيب أو الصيدلي إذا كنت تأخذ أو أخذت في الآونة الأخيرة أي أدوية أخرى، بما في ذلك الأدوية التي تم الحصول عليها دون وصفة طبية.
الطعام و الشراب:
إن تأثير فيرو-فول كبسولات قد يقل إذا أخذ مع الشاي أو القهوة أو البيض أو الحليب.
الحمل والرضاعة الطبيعية:
لا تستخدم هذا الدواء خلال الأسابيع الثلاثة عشر الأولى من الحمل. طبيبك سوف يقرر ما إذا كنت بحاجة إلى أن تأخذ هذا الدواء خلال الفترة المتبقية من الحمل.
القيادة واستخدام الآلات:
فيرو-فول كبسولات لا يؤثر على القدرة على القيادة أو تشغيل الآلات.
- الجرعة المعتادة هي كبسولة واحدة يومياً بعد ١٣ أسبوع من الحمل. بعض المرضى الحوامل قد يحتاجون إلى جرعة أعلى من الحديد. طبيبك قد يصف لك أعلى جرعة من فيرو-فول كبسولات إذا لزم الأمر.
- ابتلع كبسولة كاملة مع كوب من الماء. لا تقم بمضغ أو مص الكبسولة كما يعمل ذلك علي زياده الآثار الجانبية. بدلاً من ذلك، يمكن فتح الكبسولة وخلط الحبيبات اللينه مع الغذاء اللين البارد، ولكن يجب ألا يمضغ أو يمص.
لا ينبغي أن تعطى هذه الأدوية للأطفال أو المرضى المسنين.
إذا كنت أخذت فيرو-فول كبسولات أكثر مما يجب:
هذا المنتج يحتوي على الحديد. لا تترك الأدوية في متناول أيدي الأطفال. إذا كنت أنت أو أي شخص آخر قد اخذ الكثير من فيرو-فول كبسولات اتصل بطبيبك أو المستشفى على الفور.
الجرعة الزائدة في حالة الأطفال قد تكون قاتلة.
العلامات المبكرة للجرعة الزائدة (تصل إلى ٦ ساعات بعد أخذ كبسول) تشمل ما يلي:
- ألم بالمعدة.
- إسهال.
- الشعور بالمرض.
- وجود الدم في القيء أو البراز.
وتشمل العلامات الأخرى:
- انهيار الدورة الدموية في الجسم (صدمة).
- تلف الكبد.
- فشل كلوي.
- نوبات.
- غيبوبة.
- عدم الرغبة في فعل أي شيء.
- نزيف في المعدة.
- الصفراء.
- السوائل على الرئتين.
- انخفاض نسبة السكر في الدم.
- اضطرابات الدم (اضطرابات في التخثر).
- إرتفاع نسبة حموضة الدم.
- تضيق البواب - تضييق جزء من المعدة التي تقود إلى الأمعاء الدقيقة.
إذا كنت قد نسيت أن تأخذ فيرو-فول كبسولات
قم بأخذ الجرعه في أقرب وقت كما كنت تتذكر. ثم خذ الجرعة التالية في الوقت المعتاد. لا تأخذ جرعة مضاعفة لتعويض الجرعة المنسية.
اذا كان لديك أي أسئلة أخرى عن استخدام هذا المنتج، اسأل طبيبك أو الصيدلي.
مثل جميع الأدوية، يمكن فيرو-فول كبسولات ان يتسبب في آثار جانبية على الرغم من أن الجميع لا يحصل لهم.
يمكن أن يسبب فيرو-فول كبسولات حساسية، على الرغم من الحساسية الخطيرة نادرة جداً. أخبر طبيبك فوراً إذا كنت تواجه أي من الأعراض التالية:
- صعوبة في التنفس.
- طفح جلدي يؤثر بالجسم.
- إذا كنت تشعر بتدهور بالصحه.
إذا كنت تواجه الأعراض التالية بينما كنت تأخذ هذا الدواء اتصل بطبيبك في أقرب وقت ممكن:
- اضطرابات في المعدة.
- عدم الشعور بالراحة بالمعدة.
- فقدان الشهية.
- الشعور بالغثيان أو بالمرض.
- الإمساك.
- الإسهال.
- سواد البراز.
إذا كان أي من هذه الآثار الجانبية جدية، أو إذا لاحظت أي آثار جانبية غير المذكورة في هذه النشرة، يرجى إخبار الطبيب أو الصيدلي.
- تبقي بعيدا عن متناول الأطفال .
- يخزن في مكان جاف وعند درجة حرارة لا تزيد عن ٣٠°م .
- لا يستعمل بعد إنتهاء تاريخ الصلاحية المكتوبة علي العلبة.
- يجب عدم التخلص من الدواء عن طريق مياة المجاري أو عن طريق القمامة. و يجب إستشارة الصيدلي عن كيفية التخلص من الدواء الغير مستخدم، و الهدف من ذلك المحافظة علي البيئة نظيفة.

One capsule daily throughout pregnancy and during lactation. Iron – deficiency anaemia and some pregnant women may need a higher dose of iron because of dietary or other factors.
FERRO-FOL should never be given for the treatment of undiagnosed megaloblastic anaemia, since folic acid may produce a haematopoietic response without preventing aggravation of neurological symptoms, which may lead to serious neurological damage.
-Concurrent use of iron with antacids, calcium supplements, tea, coffee, milk or milk products may decrease iron absorption and so iron supplements should not be taken within one hour before or two hours after ingestion of any of the above.
-Concurrent administration with tetracyclines should be avoided, since iron chelates with tetracyclines and absorption of both agents may be impaired.

FERRO-FOL® is generally well–tolerated. Nausea and other gastrointestinal disturbances sometimes encountered during iron therapy are unlikely to occur with FERRO-FOL® capsules.

Reporting suspected adverse reactions after authorisation of the medicinal product is important. It allows continued monitoring of benefit/risk balance of the medicinal product. Health care professionals are asked to report any suspected adverse reactions.

Symptoms of overdosage may include epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, haematemesis, and circulatory collapse. Treatment includes gastric lavage followed by administration of 5 g desferrioxamine by IV infusion. Serum iron levels should be monitored and supportive and symptomatic measures should be applied.
FERRO-FOL® is a haematinic preparation especially formulated for prophylaxis and treatment of iron and folic acid deficiency during pregnancy and lactation. FERRO-FOL® is formulated as spansule capsules to release most of the iron in the upper small intestine where absorption is greatest and not in the stomach where gastric irritation may occur. Ferrous sulphate acts as a source of iron for iron-deficiency anaemia. Each spansule sustained-release capsule contains 150 mg of dried ferrous sulphate; four-fifths of the iron is especially formulated for sustained release over a period of several hours. Folic acid is a member of the vitamin B group; it is reduced in the body to tetrahydrofolate, which is a coenzyme for various metabolic processes including the synthesis of DNA. Both iron and folic acid are essential for erythropoiesis and maturation of RBCs.
