Hydroderm Cream Plus, indicated for the initial pre-treatment of hyper-pigmented skin conditions such as acne spots, freckles, age spots, and other unwanted areas of melanin hyper-pigmentation in the presence of measures for sun avoidance, when results occur patients switch to simple Hydroderm Cream for maintenance therapy.

 Topical application of hydroquinone induces a reversible depigmentation of the skin by inhibiting melanin production. Exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light will cause repigmentation of lightened areas. Combination with photoaging mitigative agent as retinoid improve depigmentation results and once desired effect has been achieved, the use of Hydroquinone Cream alone will be sufficient for maintenance therapy. Dexamethasone a low rating steroid provides symptomatic relief of inflammation and/or pruritis may associated with hydroquinone and/or retinoin application. Sunscreen use is an essential aspect of hydroquinone therapy because even minimal sunlight can produce melanin activity. It is necessary to use sun protection during skin lightening therapy. After and during maintenance therapy, sun exposure should be avoided on bleached skin by application of a sunscreen or sun block agent or protective clothing to prevent repigmentation.

Contra Indications: Conditions affecting use, especially sensitivity to Sodium Metabisulfite, broken skin, burning sensation, dryness, irritation, itching, skin infection, stripping of epidermal layer, eczematous skin – contact dermatitis and allergic skin.

Warning / Precautions while using this medicine: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.

Carcinogenicity: No data available on long term potential for carcinogenicity in animals or humans.

Pregnancy: Hydroderm Cream Plus should not be given to pregnant women as it contains tretinoin which is associated with risk of fatal malformation.

Nursing Mothers: For safety reason not recommended to use by nursing women.

Paediatric Use: Not recommended. Safety and effectiveness in children below the age of 12 have not been established.

Hydroderm Cream Plus should be applied to affected areas and rubbed in well once daily at night. A Sunscreen Protection Agent Factor 15 (SPF 15) or higher, should be used daily, to prevent repigmentation.

 Duration of treatment: Since a Hydroderm Cream Plus lightens on a gradual basis (depending on skin pigmentation and other factors) it can take up to 3 weeks before you start to see results. After that, patients switch to simple Hydroderm Cream for maintenance therapy.

Side Effects, toxic reactions and antidote: Prolonged use of Hydroderm Cream Plus may produce hyper pigmentation especially on areas of skin exposed to sunlight. Occasionally hypersensitivity has occurred and skin testing recommended before use. Apply a small amount to an unbroken patch of skin; check in 24 hours where there is itching or excessive inflammatory response further treatment is not advised. Hydroquinone should not be applied to abraded or sunburned skin. It should be used to bleach eyelashes or eyebrows and contact with the eyes should be avoided as may produce staining and corneal opacities. Application of Hydroderm Cream Plus may result in redness in the skin (erythema).

 Allergies: The product may cause transient erythema and a mild burning sensation. If the patients have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to Hydroquinone. Contains Sodium Metabisulfite, which can cause allergic-type reaction in certain susceptible people. The overall prevalence of sulfite sensitivity in the general population is low. Sulfite sensitivity is seen more frequently in asthmatic people.

 Treatment of side effect: If the cream absorbed from large wounds, since sufficient quantity may be absorbed to give rise to toxic symptoms or Hydroquinone Cream has been accidentally swelled, empty the stomach by lavage, taken care to avoid perforation, olive oil or another vegetable oil may be added to the water to better dissolve hydroquinone and delay absorption; a small amount of oil may be left in the stomach. Activated charcoal may be useful.

 Skin-Hyper allergy Treatment: Blot of excess cream, and wash the skin with caption amounts of water, then with a vegetable oil. Keep the patient warm and give supportive treatment.

Store at room temperature, preferably between 15 and 30ºC.
