1. WHAT HEMAMAX F IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
HEMAMAX F is chocolate-flavored chewable tablet that contains folic acid
and non-ionic form of iron which is less irritant to gastrointestinal tract and
does not stain the teeth. The non-ionic form of iron is characterized by
non-metallic taste.
The folic acid content corresponds to the international recommended dose.
HEMAMAX F is used as a source of folic acid and iron for folic acid and
iron-deficiency anemia and when the physiological needs are increased.
HEMAMAX F is used to combat both folic acid and iron deficiency and
anaemia, and to improve iron reserves and folate status in women of
reproductive age.

2. BEFORE YOU TAKE HEMAMAX F
A-Do not take HEMAMAX F:
If you are allergic to the active substances or any listed excipients.
If you have iron overload or disturbances in utilization of iron (as in lead
anemia and thalassemia).
If you have non-iron deficiency anemia (e.g. hemolytic anemia, megaloblastic
anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency) unless iron deficiency is also present.
If you are receiving repeated blood transfusions
If you have with phenylketonuria.
B-Take special care with HEMAMAX F
Check with your physician or pharmacist before using this medicine:
If you suffer from iron-storage or iron-absorption diseases.
If you have gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease.
If you have folate dependent tumors.
C-Taking other medicines, herbal or dietary supplements
The non-ionic form of iron seldom reacts with other drugs.
Folic acid may reduce the antiepileptic serum levels.
Chloramphenicol and co-trimoxazole may interfere with folate metabolism.
Folic acid absorption may be reduced by sulfasalazine.
Folic acid may interfere with the effects of methotrexate.
Please tell your physician or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently
taken any other medicines, including medicines
obtained without prescription.
D-Taking HEMAMAX F with food and drink
Absorption of iron is increased when taken by mouth in the fasting state,
however HEMAMAX F may be taken with food if stomach upset occurs.
Iron absorption is aided some dietary acids such as vitamin C .
E-Pregnancy
The pregnancy risk factor is A. HEMAMAX F is recommended in pregnancy
to combat both iron deficiency and anaemia, and to improve iron reserves
and folate status.
Ask your physician or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
F-Breastfeeding
HEMAMAX F is recomended in breast feeding to combat both iron deficiency
and anaemia, and to improve iron reserves and folate status.

G- Driving and using machines
HEMAMAX F does not impair the alertness or reaction time, so it does not
affect the ability to drive and use machines.
H- Important information about some of the ingredients of HEMAMAX F:
Hemamax F contains E951 which is contraindicated in patients with
phenylketonuria.

3. HOW TO TAKE HEMAMAX F
Always take HEMAMAX F exactly as your physician has told you.
You should check with your physician or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Dosage
Your physician will determine what dose is appropriate for you.

 Treatment of anemia: 1 – 2 tablets daily in divided doses.
- Prophylactic from anemia: 1 tablet daily.
- Pregnancy and Lactation period: 1 tablet daily.
HEMAMAX F Tablets shall be chewed.
HEMAMAX F may cause gastrointestinal irritation if taken on empty stomach
and this can be reduced by giving it with or after food or by beginning therapy
with a small dose and increasing gradually. Treatment should be continued
until blood values return to normal levels for a month after that to ensure
complete compensation of iron stores in the body.
If you take more HEMAMAX F than you should:
Call your physician or go to the nearest hospital emergency unit immediately.
Symptoms:
Diarrhea, bloating and abdominal pain.
Treatment:
In treating acute iron poisoning, speed is essential to reduce absorption of
iron from the gastrointestinal tract. Activated charcoal is ineffective, gastric
lavage should be used in suspected cases ingested 60 mg/kg or more of
elemental iron within 1 hour of presentation. Serum-iron concentrations may
be an aid to estimating the severity of poisoning.
If you forget to take HEMAMAX F:
If you forget to take a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember
it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and
continue your regular dosing schedule.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
If you stop taking HEMAMAX F TABLETS:
Do not stop taking HEMAMAX F unless your physician tells you.
If you have any further questions on the use of this product,

4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, HEMAMAX F can cause side effects, although not
everybody gets them.
Tell your physician immediately if you experience any of the following
symptoms:
Short-term gastrointestinal discomfort and black stool.
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not
listed in this leaflet, please tell your physician or pharmacist.

5. HOW TO STORE HEMAMAX F
Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Store below 25° C.
Store in the original container.
Do not use HEMAMAX F after the expiry date which is stated on the box.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not use HEMAMAX F if you notice any visible signs of deterioration.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required.
