1. What this product is and what it is used for

Fucidin®, an antibiotic derived from Fusidium
coccineum, exerts powerful antibacterial activity
against a number of gram-positive organisms.
Staphylococci, including the strains resistant
to penicillin or other antibiotics, are particularly
susceptible to Fucidin®. The therapeutic efficacy
of topically applied Fucidin® is due partly to the
pronounced antibacterial activity of Fucidin® against
the organisms responsible for skin infections,
and partly to the unique ability of this antibiotic to
penetrate intact skin.

Fucidin® ointment is indicated for treatment of skin
infections caused by staphylococci, streptococci,
Corynebacterium minutissimum and other
organisms sensitive to fusidic acid; the most
important indications being:
Impetigo, Boils, Hidradenitis, Infected wounds,
Sycosis barbae, Paronychia, Folliculitis, Carbuncles,
Erythrasma

2. What you need to know before you use this product

3. How to use this product.

Fucidin® ointment is applied to the affected area
2-3 times daily, generally for a period of 7 days.
It can be used with or without a covering dressing.
Caution should be observed when applying
Fucidin® ointment in the eye region as this
preparation may cause irritation if it gets into the
eye.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Fucidin® ointment can cause
side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Important side effects to look for: You must get
urgent medical help if you have any of the following
symptoms. You may be having an allergic reaction:
- You have difficulty breathing
- Your face or throat swell
- Your skin develops a severe rash
Other possible side effects:
Uncommon side effects (probably affect less than
1 in 100 people)
- Irritation at site of application (including pain,
burning, stinging and skin redness)
- Itching
- Rash

If any of the side effects become serious or you
notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, tell
your doctor or pharmacist.

5. How to store this product

Shelf life: 3 years.
Storage Conditions: Do not store above 25°C.

1. ما ھو هذا المستحضر وماھي دواعي استعماله

الفيوسيدين^® هو المضاد الحيوي المستخرج من فطر زفيوسيديم كوكسينيمس وهو مضاد حيوي قوي ذو فعالية ضد عدد من الجراثيم موجبة التفاعل مع اختبار جرام. البكتيريا العنقودية بما في ذلك السلالات المقاومة للبنسيلين والمضادات الحيوية الأخرى سريعة التأثر بالفيوسيدين ^®خاصة.

المقدرة العلاجية للفيوسيدين^® عند استخدامه موضعياً ترجع من ناحية إلى كونه مضاد حيوي شديد الفعالية ضد الجراثيم التي تصيب الجلد ومن ناحية أخرى إلى المقدرة الفريدة لهذا المضاد الحيوي على اختراق الجلد السليم.

يستعمل مرهم فيوسيدين^® في علاج الالتهابات الجلدية الناشئة عن الإصابة بالبكتيريا العنقودية، البكتيريا السبحية، والكورينو بكتيريا مينوتيسموم، والجراثيم الأخرى الحساسة إلى فيوسيديك أسيد.

وأهم هذه الاستعمالات هي:

الحصف- الدمامل – الدملات – التهاب الجلد المحيط بالأظافر- الجروح الملوثة – قوباء الذقن – التهاب الغدد التحت أبطية – التهاب الجلد المعروفة باسم زأريثرازماس – التهاب منابت الشعر.

يدهن مرهم فيوسيدين^® على المناطق المصابة ويكرر ذلك 2- 3 مرات يومياً لمدة 7 أيام عادة.

يمكن استخدام المرهم مع أو بدون غطاء مع الشاش.

يجب الحرص عند استخدام مرهم فيوسيدين^® بالقرب من منطقة العين إذ أن هذا المستحضر قد يسبب تهيج العين إذا دخل فيها

4. الأعراض الجانبية المحتملة

الناس. الآثار الجانبية الهامة والتي يجب ملاحظتها جيداً: يجب الحصول على مساعدة طبيبة عاجلة وبوجه السرعة إذا كنت تعاني أي من الأعراض التالية. فقد تعاني من ارتكاس أرجي (تحسسي):

- صعوبة في التنفس.

- انتفاخ وتضخم في الوجه والحلق.

- تطور وظهور طفح جلدي حاد.

التأثيرات الجانبية الأخرى التي يمكن حدوثها:

- تأثيرات جانبية غير مألوفة (قد تؤثر على أقل من شخص واحد من بين 100 شخص).

- تهيجات في مواقع استعمال ودهن الكريم (تشمل آلام، تحرق (شعور بحرق)، شعور بلدغ (لسع) واحمرار جلدي).

5. طريقة تخزين المستحضر

مدة الحفظ: 3 سنوات

شروط التخزين: يجب عدم تخزين وحفظ هذا الدواء فوق درجة حرارة 25 درجة مئوية.

Read this leaflet carefully before you start using this product as it contains important information for you

1. NAME OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT

Fucidin.

2. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION

Sodium fusidate 20 mg/g

3. PHARMACEUTICAL FORM

Ointment. Off-white to yellowish white, translucent, viscous ointment with no particular scent.

4. CLINICAL PARTICULARS

4.1 Therapeutic Indications

Skin infections caused by bacteria sensitive to sodium fusidate.

4.2 Posology And Method Administration

Adults and children: apply two to three times daily.

4.3 Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to the active substance or any other of the ingredients.

4.4. Special warnings and precautions for use

Fucidin Ointment should not be used near the eyes, as the sodium salt of fusidic
acid may cause irritation of conjunctiva.
The ointment should not be used on open wounds and seriously damaged skin due
to the risk of developing allergy.
Fucidin Ointment contains wool fat and cetyl alcohol which may cause local skin
reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).
Fucidin Ointment also contains butylhydroxytoluene (E321) which may cause local
skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) and irritation to the eyes and mucous
membranes.

4.5. Interactions with other medicinal products

None known.

4.6. Fertility, pregnancy and lactation

Pregnancy and Lactation
Pregnancy:
Should only be used with caution during pregnancy. No clinical data are available
regarding the use of fusidic acid in connection with pregnancy. Studies in animals
do not report any direct or indirect harm to pregnancy, the development of the
embryo/foetus, the delivery or the postnatal development.
Lactation:
Can be used during breast feeding.

4.7. Effects on ability to drive and use machines

Effects on Ability to Drive and use Machines

Fucidin Ointment has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive or use
machines.

4.8. Undesirable effects

Based on the clinical data for Fucidin Cream and Ointment it is presumed that
approximately 10 - 15% of the patients will experience undesirable effects.
The most frequently reported undesirable effects are various skin reactions, in
particular on the application spot.

Exanthema*, irritation of the skin, pruritis, burning or stinging sensation of the skin, erythema, dry skin.

Contact dermatitis, eczema, urticaria, angioneurotic oedema, periorbal oedema

* Various types of rash reactions have been reported including erythematous, maculo-papular and pustular exanthema.

4.9. Overdoes

Overdosing is not likely.

5. PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

5.1. Pharmacodynamic Properties

Fucidin exerts antibacterial effects by inhibiting the protein synthesis in bacteria.
Resistance to sodium fusidate is rare (1-2%) after 30 years of use. Bacteria resistant
to penicillin and other antibiotics are often sensitive to sodium fusidate.

5.2. Pharmacokinetic Properties

Insignificant systemic absorption.

5.3 Preclinical Safety Data

There are no preclinical data relevant to the prescribing doctor available, apart
from what is mentioned in other parts of this summary of product characteristics.
