Properties: Opticyclin eye ointment contains tetracyclin which is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Tetracyclins are bacteriostatic in which they suppress protein synthesis by binding to the 30S bacterial ribosomal subunit, preventing the binding of aminoacyl tRNA to initial site on ribosome.
Spectrum of activity: Opticyclin posses strong activity against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria including aerobic, anaerobic and spore forming microorganisms such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Salmonilla and Shigella species. Also it is active against spirochetes, mycoplasma, chlamydia, rickettsia, and some protozoa.
Indications: Opticyclin is useful alternative to penicillin. It is indicated in the treatment of acute and chronic conjunctivitis, acute and chronic blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis and corneal ulcers it is also useful for preventing infections in patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery.
Warning: Avoid excessive exposure to sun or UV radiation during treatment with tetracyclines to avoid potential occurrence of photodermatosis.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to tetracycline or any other constituents.
Dosage: A small amount of opticyclin eye ointment should be applied into the conjunctival sac every 2 hours. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the infection. The treatment should be cotinued for 2-3 days after disappearance of symptoms.
In very rare cases allergic reaction and overgrowth of nonsusceptible
microorganisms may occur.

الخواص الدوائية: يحتوي أوبتيسايكلين على تيتراسايكلين وهو مضاد حيوي واسع الطيف يعتبر
التيتراسايكلين موقف لنمو الجراثيم حيث يعمل على تثبيط عملية تصنيع البروتين عن طريق اتحاده مع
العامل الريبوسومي ٠١ ا س وبالتالي يمنع ارتباط الأمينواسايل tRNA للجزء الأمامي من
الريبوسوم.
طيف الفعالية: أوبتسايكلين مرهم للعين له فعالية قوية كمضاد حيوي ضد معظم الجراثيم موجبة الغرام
وسالبة الغرام والبكتيريا الهوائية واللاهوائية وصانعة الأبواغ. مثل البكتيريا العنقودية والعصوية
وبعض فصائل السالمونيلا والشيغلات. الجراثيم اللولبية , المايكوبلاسما والحراشيف البرعمية. الفصيلة
الركتسية وبعض البروتوزوا.
الاستطبابات: أوبتيسايكلين هو بديل نافع للبنسيللين. يستعمل أوبتسايكلين في علاج التهابات العين
الجرثومية الحادة والمزمنة مثل الرمد والتهاب الأجفان الحاد والمزمن وقرحة القرنية . كما أنه مفيد في
منع حدوث الالتهابات بعد العمليات الجراحية للعين.
موانع الاستعمال: لا ينصح باستعمال أوبتيسايكلين من قبل الأشخاص الذين لديهم تحسس
للتيتراسايكلين أو لأي من المكونات.
تحذير: ينصح بتجنب التعرض لأشعة الشمس المباشرة أو للأشعة فوق البنفسجية أثناء فترة العلاج
لتجنب الحدوث الكامن لداء الجلد الضوئي.
طريقة الاستعمال: توضع كمية قليلة من المرهم في كيس ملتحمة العين كل ساعتين أو حسب إرشادات
الطبيب. كما يجب أن يستمر في العلاج لمدة ٠ ٢ أيام بعد زوال الأعراض
التأثيرات الجانبية: في حالات نادرة جداً يمكن حدوث تفاعلات تحسسية وتكاثر الكائنات المقاومة.
يحفظ بدرجة حرارة دون ٢٢ درجة مئوية.

Tetracyclines belong to the family of medicines called antibiotics. Tetracycline ophthalmic preparations are used to treat infections of the eye. They may also be used along with other medicines that are taken by mouth for infections of the eye.
The dose medicines in this class will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.
The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine. For eye infections:
For ophthalmic dosage form (ointment):
Adults and children—Use every two to four hours.
Pediatric
Although there is no specific information comparing use of ophthalmic tetracyclines in children with use in other age groups, they are not expected to cause different side effects or problems in children than they do in adults.
Geriatric
Many medicines have not been studied specifically in older people. Therefore, it may not be known whether they work exactly the same way they do in younger adults or if they cause different side effects or problems in older people. There is no specific information comparing use of tetracyclines in the elderly with use in other age groups.
Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.
Interactions with Food/Tobacco/Alcohol
Certain medicines should not be used at or around the time of eating food or eating certain types of food since interactions may occur. Using alcohol or tobacco with certain medicines may also cause interactions to occur. Discuss with your healthcare professional the use of your medicine with food, alcohol, or tobacco.
Pregnancy
Tetracycline ophthalmic preparations have not been shown to cause birth defects or other problems in humans.
Breast-feeding
Tetracycline ophthalmic preparations have not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies.
Eye ointments can affect visual ability and therefore caution is advised when driving or using machines.
There have not been any common or important side effects reported with this medicine. However, if you notice any unusual effects, check with your doctor. It allows continued monitoring of the benefit/risk balance of the medicinal product.
