Neodex contains Neomycin is an antibiotic, which used to treat bacterial infections, and
Dexamethasone which is a steroid that used to treat the inflammation associated with bacterial
infections of the eye.
Indications: Neodex is indicated in inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar
conjunctiva, cornea and anterior segment of the globe, and in certain infective conjunctivitis
when the inherent risk of steroid use is accepted to obtain a diminishing in edema and
inflammation. Neodex is effective also generally indicated in allergic disorders of the eye and ear. The use of this combination drug is indicated where the risk of infection is high or where there is a possibility of potentially dangerous numbers of bacteria being present in the eye.

Do not take Neodex
- if you have a viral or fungal infection in your eye. It is used to treat infections caused by
bacteria only.
- if you are allergic to any antibacterial medicines or to steroids, such as cortisone,
hydrocortisone, or prednisone.
-Neodex is not to be used in case of perforated ear drum.
Take special care with Neodex:
- Do not touch the dropper or tube opening to any surface, including your eyes or hands.
- The dropper or tube opening is sterile. If it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection
in your eye.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have glaucoma, cataracts, or any other eye condition
before taking this medicine.
- Contact your doctor if your symptoms begin to get worse or if you do not see any improvement
in your condition after a few days.
- Do not stop using this medicine suddenly without asking your doctor. You may need to slowly
decrease your dose before stopping it completely.
Other medicines that affect Neodex
- Neodex may interact with smallpox vaccine, so it is advisable to avoid the vaccination while
using Neodex.
- Avoid other eye medications unless they are approved by your doctor.
- Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are taking an oral steroid medication such
as prednisone.

- Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with neomycin and dexamethasone
ophthalmic. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-thecounter
medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Drive and Use machines
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities.
Neodex may cause blurred vision. If you experience blurred vision, avoid these activities.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Neodex is in the pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether it will harm an
unborn baby. Do not use this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.
It is also not known whether Neodex passes into breast milk. Do not use this medication without
first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

- Wash your hands before and after using your eye drops.
- Tilt your head back slightly and pull down on your lower eyelid.
- Position the dropper above your eye.
- Look up and away from the dropper.
- Squeeze out a drop and close your eye.
- Apply gentle pressure to the inside corner of your eye (near your nose) for about 1 minute to
prevent the liquid from draining down your tear duct.
-Repeat the process in the other eye if your doctor has prescribed drops in both eyes.
- If you are using more than one drop in the same eye, repeat the process with about 5 minutes
between drops.
Dose
-As eye drops: put one or two drops into the conjunctival sac every hour during the day and
every two hours during the night as initial therapy. When a favorable response is observed,
reduce dosage to one drop every four hours. Later, further reduction in dosage to one drop three
to four times daily may suffice to control symptoms.

As ear drops: you may instill the drops directly into the ear canal, or on a gauze wick which
should remain for 12-24 hours, and kept moist with the liquid every few hours. The appropriate

If you forget to use Neodex
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next
regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next one as directed. Do not use a
double dose of this medication.
If anyone has too much.
An overdose of this medication is unlikely to occur. If you do suspect an overdose, wash the eye
with water and call an emergency room or hospital near you. If the drops have been ingested,
drink plenty of fluid and call an emergency center for advice.

- As eye drops: Some burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, blurred vision, eyelid
itching, eyelid swelling, or sensitivity to light may occur.
- As ear drops: You may experience a mild burning or stinging sensation in the ear when you
first start using this preparation. If this becomes severe or if you notice any worrying symptoms
which you think may be due to this drop, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

- Don’t Store Above 30 oC.
- Discard bottle four weeks after opening.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how
to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
